How the double click test works
A healthy mouse sends exactly one click each time you press a button. As mouse switches wear out, the metal contact inside can bounce and send two clicks a few milliseconds apart. Humans can't click that fast on purpose; even the fastest clickers need 50–60 ms between clicks.
This test measures the gap between every click. Any click that arrives faster than the threshold (80 ms by default) is flagged in red as a possible faulty double click.
How to run the test
- Click inside the box at a normal, steady pace for about 30 seconds.
- Watch the Faulty double clicks counter. It should stay at 0.
- Repeat with the right and middle buttons.
How to fix a mouse that double clicks
- Check the Windows double-click speed in Settings › Bluetooth & devices › Mouse › Additional mouse settings.
- Update or reinstall the mouse driver and its software.
- Try the mouse on another computer to rule out software.
- If the problem stays, the switch is worn. Use the warranty, or have the switch replaced by a repair shop.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my mouse double clicking when I click once?
Usually the micro-switch under the button is worn and its contact bounces, sending two clicks. Dust, static, low batteries in wireless mice and driver settings can cause it too.
What threshold should I use?
The default of 80 ms works for most people. If you click very fast on purpose, lower it to about 50 ms so normal fast clicks are not flagged.
Can a double clicking mouse be repaired?
Yes. Replacing the micro-switch fixes it permanently. Many gaming mice can also have their debounce time increased in the manufacturer software.
