What is a CPS test?
CPS stands for clicks per second. A CPS test counts how many times you click in a set time and divides by the seconds. Gamers use it to practise clicking speed for games like Minecraft PvP, and to check that a mouse registers every click.
What is a good CPS score?
- 4–6 CPS: normal clicking speed.
- 7–9 CPS: fast. Good for most games.
- 10–14 CPS: very fast. Usually needs jitter clicking.
- 15+ CPS: butterfly or drag clicking territory.
Clicking techniques
- Jitter clicking: tense your arm so your finger vibrates on the button.
- Butterfly clicking: alternate two fingers on the same button.
- Drag clicking: drag a finger across the button so friction creates many clicks. It needs a suitable mouse.
Clicking very hard for a long time can strain your hand and wear out mouse switches. Take breaks.
Frequently asked questions
What is the average CPS?
Most people click 6–7 times per second. Gamers who practise jitter clicking often reach 10–12 CPS.
Does a gaming mouse increase CPS?
A light mouse with responsive switches makes fast clicking easier, but technique matters far more than the mouse.
Why are my clicks not counting?
If clicks are missed at normal speed, the mouse switch may be failing. Check it with the Mouse Tester and the Double Click Test.
