How the typing test works
Type the highlighted word and press Space to move on. Correct words turn teal and mistakes turn red. Your speed is calculated the standard way: every 5 correctly typed characters (including spaces) count as one word, divided by the minutes elapsed.
What is a good typing speed?
- Below 30 WPM: beginner. Practise touch typing without looking at the keys.
- 30–50 WPM: average for most computer users.
- 50–70 WPM: above average, good for office and data entry jobs.
- 70+ WPM: fast. Professional typists often reach 80–100 WPM.
Many Indian government and private exams, such as SSC, court clerk and data entry posts, need 30–40 WPM in English or 25–30 WPM in Hindi.
Hindi typing test
Choose हिन्दी to practise Hindi typing. You'll need a Hindi keyboard enabled in your system. The InScript layout is the one used in most government typing exams. Phonetic and Remington layouts work too.
Tips to type faster
- Keep your fingers on the home row (A S D F – J K L ;).
- Focus on accuracy first; speed follows.
- Practise 10–15 minutes every day instead of one long session.
